Rhinencephalon

The area of the forebrain that controls the sense of smell.


That part of each cerebral hemisphere that contains the limbic system and the olfactory nerve.


Anatomical portion of the cerebral cortex associated with the processing of impulses pertaining to smell.


The parts of the brain, collectively, that in early stages of evolution were concerned mainly with the sense of smell. The rhinencephalon includes the olfactory nerve, olfactory tract, and the regions now usually classified as belonging to the limbic system.


The portion of brain concerned with receiving and integrating olfactory impulses. It includes the olfactory bulb, olfactory tract and striae, intermediate olfactory area, pyriform area, paraterminal area, hippocampal formation, and fornix, and constitutes the paleopallium and archipallium.
