    Any loose calcareous deposit in a joint. A loose piece of bone or cartilage in the knee joint, making the joint lock. Fragment of synovial membrane or cartilage found free in the joint space due to trauma or osteoarthritis.

    Founded in 1945 and consolidated with the National League for Nursing in 1952.  

  • Joint committee on health education terminology

    Established in 1990, a committee comprised of representatives of the various professional associations with a significant interest in health education, it developed a list of health education terms and phrases used by health educators. It was the first major attempt to standardize the definitions of key health education professional terminology.  

  • Joint committee on health education and promotion terminology (HEPT)

    Established in 2000, a continuance of the National Committee on Health Education Terminology of 1990. It refined the terminology included in the 1990 final document and added new content that has become more-or-less standardized as the professional language of health education.
