  • Microcrobial classification

    The categories that pathogenic organisms are placed. There are two general classifications with several subclasses for each: 1. plants: (a) bacteria (bacillus, coccus, spirillum), (b) rickettsia, (c) virus, (d) fungus (molds and yeasts); 2. Animals: (a) protozoa (amoeba, plasmodium), (b) spirochete, (c) metazoa (roundworm, tapeworm, trichinella), (d) schistosomes.  

  • Microbial agent

    Pertaining to a microbe-caused disease.  

  • Mickey finn

    Slang for chloral hydrate mixed in alcohol.  

  • Miasmatic theory of disease

    The theory of the causation of disease that arose during the Middle Ages. It proposed that mysterious poisons from decaying matter were earned in the atmosphere causing disease, germ theory of disease.

    Historically, a term used to indicate a vapor or mist that was thought to cause illness, cf: miasmatic theory of disease.

    A form of shock therapy in which convulsions are produced by injections of metrazol. This treatment is rarely used today.
