Methyl alcohol

An alcohol used for industrial purposes. Not fit for human consumption. Its chemical formula is CH3OH ethyl alcohol.


A colorless, volatile, flammable liquid obtained from distillation of wood. Even though its physical properties are similar to those of ethyl alcohol, it is not fit for human consumption. Ingestion of methyl alcohol can lead to blindness and death. It is used as a solvent, for fuel, as an additive for denaturing ethyl alcohol, as an antifreeze agent, and in the preparation of formaldehyde.
