  • Mold guide

A selection of artificial teeth demonstrating the dimensions and shape of commercially available artificial teeth.

  • Mold chart

Representation of the different dimensions of a denture tooth’s (or teeth’s) shape and size.

  • Modulus of elasticity (syn)

Elastic modulus. Ratio of stress over strain, when the deformation is elastic. It is a measure of stiffness or flexibility of a material. A stiff material has a high modulus of elasticity and a flexible material has a low modulus of elasticity. Also called Young’s modulus.

  • Modifier

Any substance that changes the color or properties of a given substance. In medicine, especially in therapeutics and clinical medicine, use of or addition of something that alters that to which it is added.

  • Modified ridge lap

A ridge lap surface of a pontic that is reduced, shaped, and adapted to only the facial or buccal aspect of the residual alveolar ridge.

  • Modified occlusal anatomy

Application of nonanatomic occlusal surfaces of artificial teeth in an attempt to control or modify the direction and/or magnitude of forces generated during function or parafunction.

  • Moderate sedation

A drug‐induced depression of consciousness during which patients respond purposefully to verbal commands, either alone or accompanied by light tactile stimulation. No interventions are required to maintain a patent airway and spontaneous ventilation.

  • Modeling (bone)

Independent sites of formation and resorption that result in a change of the shape or size of bone. It occurs during growth and during healing.

  • Model scanning

The process of acquiring the 3D image of a dental model for translation into a digital file format, such as STL. The digital file can be stored for future reference or used in a CAD software program for the design and fabrication of a dental prosthesis.

  • Model

A facsimile representation of something; an analog or emulation used for display purposes. A composite of concepts delineated in a manner that illustrates the ways in which a program shall be implemented. A pattern or form used to make a replica, as a cast or impression of teeth in dentistry.
