  • Nonocclusal loading

The restoration is not in occlusal contact with the opposing dentition in maximal intercuspal position or in excursions. However, the cheeks, tongue, lips, and food, may touch the restoration.

  • Nonhexed

Property of an implant or a prosthetic component that does not incorporate a mechanical design using a six‐sided or sixangled hexagonal elevation or shape. A component or a dental implant without a hexagonal connection interface.

  • Nonfunctional side

The side away from which the mandible moves during lateral excursions.

  • Nonfunctional loading

Load placed on an implant that is not generated through normal occlusal function or parafunction; for example, applying load through the tightening of an abutment screw.

  • Nonengaging

Feature of a dental implant or prosthetic component that does not incorporate an antirotation mechanical design.

  • Noncollagenous matrix protein

Protein presented in the organic matrix of collagenbased calcified tissues together with the supporting collagen meshwork. It contributes to determining the structure and biomechanical properties of the tissues.

  • Nonbiodegradable

Property of tissue substitute that remains unchanged at the site of implantation, with no dispersion in vivo.

  • Nonaxial loading

Loading of an implant body that is not along the long axis of an implant body. Compare: Axial loading.

  • Nonarcon articulator

An articulator with the equivalent condylar guidance compartment attached to the lower member and the condyle equivalent hinge axis compartment attached to the upper member.

  • Nonangled abutment

Prosthetic implant component designed to parallel the long axis of the implant; considered straight to indicate no deviation from the long axis of the implant. Called also nonangulated abutment.
