  • Streptobacillus

    A type of bacterium which forms a chain. A genus of Gram-negative aerobic nonmotile rodlike bacteria that tend to form filaments. The single species, S. moniliformis, is a normal inhabitant of the respiratory tract of rats but causes rat-bite fever in man. A kind of bacterium that arranges itself in coiled chains.

    A long thin line of a different colour. A line, furrow, or narrow band. This particular ailment is recognized by its elongated sores or patches with abnormal coloring, which are commonly found in restricted areas on foliage with veins arranged in parallel or on stalks.  

  • Strawberry mark

    A red birthmark in children, which will often disappear in later life. A soft, modular, vascular nevus usually present on the face or neck, occurring at birth or shortly afterward. A birthmark, often a red spot, seen on a baby’s skin shortly after birth.

    A layer of tissue forming the epidermis. A thin layer of tissue having uniform thickness. A layer of tissue or cells, such as any of the layers of the ‘epidermis of the skin (the stratum corneum is the outermost layer).

    Epithelium formed of several layers of cells. Epithelium with the cells in layers; mitosis takes place in the lowest layer.
