Ebola virus

A highly contagious virus found in West Africa. Patients who are affected with it vomit, have bloody diarrhoea and blood seeps through their skin.


A family of viruses, which has four subtypes, three of which have been identified as a cause of disease in humans and one of which has caused disease in primates. The Ebola virus, which originated in Africa, causes Ebola hemorrhagic fever (Ebola HE), a severe, often fatal illness.
