Eburnation

The conversion of cartilage into a hard mass with a shiny surface like bone.

The wearing down of the cartilage at the articulating surface of a bone, exposing the underlying bone. This is an end result of osteoarthritis.

Changes in bone that cause it to become dense, hard, and smooth like ivory; often seen at sites of active arthritis.

Eburnation is a process where bone transforms into an ivory-like mass. In this condition, the cartilage that normally covers the articulating bone surface wears away, leading to the exposure of the underlying bone tissue. Over time, the exposed bone becomes denser and experiences wear. Eburnation is a characteristic feature associated with osteoarthritis.

A rise in bone or cartilage density is observed in joints impacted by osteoarthritis.
