Broadest at the middle with two equal rounded ends;


Linnaeus, de Candolle and Lindley, used this term as being synonymous with oval;


The mathematical definition is “a plane figure with the sum of its distances to two fixed points being constant”;


The Taxon article on plane shapes (Systematics Association Committee for Descriptive Biological Terminology, 1962) adds to this a length/width ratio of between 1.5–2, with other ratios having adjectives such as ‘narrowly’, ‘broadly’ etc.


With approximately the shape of a geometric ellipse (applied only to flat bodies).


Widest at the middle of the blade, with curved margins and pointed apex and base.


Oval, the ends rounded and is widest at the middle.


Having the form of an ellipse; often refers to leaves.


Oval shaped: broadest in the middle with two equal rounded ends. More or less oval in shape.
