The part of the axial contour of a tooth or prosthetic crown that extends from the base of the sulcus past the free soft tissue margin. The emergence profile extends to the height of contour of the crown, producing a straight or convex profile in the apical third of the axial surface. Control of this surface is important in achieving acceptable esthetics and maintaining soft tissue health.
