The treatment of patients suffering psychological crises, including those who are suicidal or homicidal, perpetrators or victims of child abuse, spousal abuse, or other intense mental anguish. Most of these people see a physician within hours or days of their violent or abusive act. Many physician training programs fail to prepare students for managing patients who need this emergency service.
