Ependymoma

A tumour in the brain originating in the ependyma.

Brain neoplasm tumor derived from ependymal cells.

The third most common type of childhood brain tumor. An ependymoma develops from cells of the ependyma (the membrane lining the ventricles and the central canal of the spinal cord). Symptoms of this tumor include headache, vomiting, and an unsteady gait. Ependymomas are graded based on how abnormal their cells appear under the microscope. Treatment options include surgery, radiation, and chemotherapy.

A cerebral tumor derived from the glial (non-nervous) cells lining the cavities of the ventricles of the brain. It may obstruct the flow of cerebrospinal fluid, causing a hydrocephalus.

A tumor arising from fetal inclusion of ependymal elements.

An uncommon glioma brain tumor, originating from the supportive glial cells in the nervous system, primarily affects children.
