Epididymitis

A medical condition in which there is inflammation of the epididymis.

Inflammation of the epididymis, a common disorder affecting the male.

Acute or chronic inflammation of the epididymis, producing tenderness, pain in the groin, chills and fever; it may result from sexually transmitted disease, inflammation of the prostate, or urinary tract infection. Treatment includes rest, support of the area, and antibiotics, if appropriate.

Acute or chronic inflammation of the epididymis resulting from a variety of conditions, including urinary tract infection, venereal disease, prostatitis, or prolonged use of indwelling urinary catheters.

Inflammation of the structure at the back of the testes that collects sperm from the testicle.

Infection and inflammation of the epididymis, the tubular structure on the upper part of the testicle. If the testicle is also inflamed, the condition is known as epididymo-orchitis. Epididymitis is caused by bacteria from sexually transmitted disease, such as gonorrhea, chlamydia, or infections of the urinary tract or prostate that infect the epididymis. Symptoms can include pain, usually quite severe and aggravated by bowel movements; rapid, painful swelling of the back of the scrotum and testicle; a temperature of up to 104°F; discharge from the penis; and pain during urination or ejaculation. Tests are performed to determine the bacterial cause of the infection, which is treated with appropriate antibiotics.

Inflammation of the epididymis. The usual cause is infection spreading down the vas deferens from the bladder or urethra, resulting in pain, swelling, and redness of the affected half of the scrotum. The inflammation may spread to the testicle (epididymo-orchitis). Treatment is by administration of antibiotics and analgesics.

Inflammation of the epididymis, usually as a result of infection, and rarely as a result of trauma or urinary reflux from the urethra.

The swelling of the diminutive duct that resides atop the testicle and constitutes a component of the conduit responsible for transporting sperm from the testicle to the penis. This ailment can be effectively remedied through the administration of antibiotics, if deemed necessary.
