Epispadias

A congenital condition where the urethra opens on the top of the penis and not at the end.

A congenital defect similar to hypospadias, in which a male’s urethra opens on the upper side of his penis, rather than at its head.

Congenital abnormality in males in which the opening for passing urine (the urethra) is on the upper surface of the penis.

Congenital defect in which the urethral opening is located on the penis dorsum in males and the clitoris in females.

A congenital defect in which the upper wall of the urethra is missing. This condition occurs more often in males than in females. The opening of the urethra may be anywhere on the top surface of the penis in males born with epispadias; usually it appears as a groove or cleft without a covering. In females, the urethra may open into the clitoris or just above it. Epispadias may require surgery to repair the defect.

A congenital abnormality in which the opening of the urethra is on the dorsal ( upper) surface of the penis. Surgical correction is carried out in infancy.

An inherited abnormality of the penis in which the opening of the urethra is on the upper surface instead of at the end of the organ. Surgical correction carried out in infancy has a high success rate.

A congenital opening of the urethra on the dorsum of the penis.

This is an uncommon birth defect where the opening of the urethra, which is the channel used for expelling urine from the bladder, isn’t located at the head of the penis as it normally would be. Instead, it’s found on the upper side of the penis. In certain instances, the penis may also bend upwards. To correct this, surgical intervention is typically undertaken during early childhood, where foreskin tissue is utilized to rebuild the urethra.

A birth defect in which the urethra opens on the upper side of the penis rather than at the tip is known as a congenital deformity. When the urethra opens on the underside, the condition is termed hypospadias. This deformity is also referred to as anaspadias.
