Eschar

A scab or slough caused by a burn, by cauterization, or through application of a corrosive substance.


A slough or piece of dead tissue that is cast off from the surface of the skin.


The dead slough covering a severe burn wound.


Scab or crust that forms on the skin after a bum.


Thick scar that forms over a healed burn.


Discarded dead tissue. An eschar can be caused by a burn or cauterization. Acids, alkalis, solid carbon dioxide (dry ice), and metallic salts that damage the skin can cause an eschar.


Hard, adherent crust caused by tissue killed by heat, chemicals or disease.


Dead matter that is cast off from the surface of the skin, esp. after a burn. The material is often crusty or scabbed.
