Eye strain

Tiredness of the eyes brought about by pro-longed close work or occurring in a person with an uncorrected eye problem; symptoms are aching and burning of the eyes, often accompanied by headache; also called asthenopia.


Tiredness in the muscles of the eye with a headache, which may be caused by an activity such as reading in bad light or working on a computer screen.


A sense of fatigue brought on by use of the eyes for prolonged close work or in persons who have an uncorrected error of refraction or an imbalance of the muscles that move the eyes. Symptoms are usually aching or burning of the eyes, accompanied by headache and even general fatigue if the eyes are not rested.


Tiredness of the eye due to overuse or use of an improper corrective lens.


Eye-strain is a widely used expression to depict the sensation of aching or discomfort in or around the eye area. This condition is typically caused by headaches arising from various factors such as muscle fatigue around the eye, sinusitis, blepharitis (inflammation of the eyelid margins), or conjunctivitis (inflammation of the transparent membrane covering the whites of the eye, known as the conjunctiva).
