Gargle

A fluid used as throat wash.


A liquid preparation that is used to wash and freshen the mouth and is usually not meant to be swallowed.

Gargling is a process by which various substances in solution are brought into contact with the throat without being swallowed. The watery solutions used for the purpose are called gargles. Gargles are used in the symptomatic treatment of infections of the throat: for example, ‘sore throat’, pharyngitis and tonsillitis.


This is a liquid solution used for cleansing and refreshing the mouth and throat. Some of these solutions include antiseptics or local anesthetics to soothe sore throats.
