Glutamate pyruvate transaminase

An enzyme facilitates the reversible exchange of an amino group between alanine and alpha-ketoglutarate, resulting in the creation of glutamate and pyruvate. This enzyme is present in both serum and various body tissues, with a notable concentration in the liver. The serum enzyme activity, known as SGPT, sees a significant rise in cases of liver diseases and also shows elevated levels in infectious mononucleosis.
