Glycoprotein

Conjugated protein in which the nonprotein group is generally a carbohydrate. It can contain one or more covalently linked carbohydrate residues. Called also glucoprotein.

A protein that has sugar molecules attached to it.

Proteins conjugated with carbohydrates such as uronic acids, polymerised glucosamine-mannose, etc., including mucins and mucoids.

A class of compounds in which a carbohydrate is combined with a protein.

A conjugated protein containing at least one carbohydrate (oligosaccharide) group within its molecule. A commonly occurring category of glycoproteins found in nature is called mucoproteins. These are protein-polysaccharide compounds that occur in the tissues, particularly in mucous secretions. Other glycoproteins include lymphokines (e.g., interleukins), hormones (e.g., somatotropins), receptors (e.g., GP120), enzymes (e.g., tissue plasminogen activator), and some therapeutics (e.g., CD4PE40).

Proteins with carbohydrate groups attached at specific locations.

A complex protein containing a carbohydrate moiety. Glycoproteins play a role in antigen recognition.

One of a group of compounds consisting of a protein combined with a carbohydrate (such as galactose or mannose). Examples of glycoproteins are certain enzymes, hormones, and antigens.

Compounds comprising a protein and a carbohydrate, such as mucins, mucoid and amyloid.

A compound consisting of a carbohydrate and protein.
