Gonadotropin-releasing hormone (Gnrh)

A substance produced by the hypothalamus that controls the production and release of luteinizing hormone and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), gonadotropin-releasing factor (GRF).

A hormone originating in a region of the brain (hypothalamus) that stimulates production of another hormone (gonadotropin) in the pituitary gland, also located in the brain.

GnRH is secreted by the hypothalamus. Release of GnRH signals the pituitary gland to secrete gonadotropic hormones, including FSH (follicle- stimulating hormone) and LH (luteinizing hormone) into the bloodstream. Gonadotropic hormones are essential for male and female fertility. They stimulate cell activity in a woman’s ovaries and a man’s testicles.

The hormone produced in the hypothalamus that causes the pituitary to release luteinizing hormone and follicle-stimulating hormone. This hormone is used in treating endometriosis.
