A group of hybrid plants of the same parentage, whether the parent plants be species or previous hybrid grexes; the term is used mainly in the context of orchid breeding, though used also for rhododendrons. A grex usually consists of many clones, representing the individual seedlings from the cross, the most desirable of which may be named as cultivars. Grex names are given without quotes in Roman type, and may be followed by a cultivar name, distinguished by being in quotes—thus the orchid name x Brassolaeliocattleya Yellow Ribbons ‘Starfire’.
