kaolin cephalin time

A laboratory test used to measure the health of the intrinsic pathway of coagulation, that is, the function of clotting factors VII, IX, XI, and XII. It is also known as the activated partial thromboplastin time (APTT). When a prolonged kaolin cephalin clotting time does not normalize after the addition of normal plasma, a lupus anticoagulant is present in the blood.
