Karyotype

The appearance of the chromosome set.

The characteristic chromosome complement of an individual, race, or species as defined by their number, size, shape, etc.

A size-order alignment of an organism’s chromosome pairs in the format of a chart. It enables the connecting of chromosomes to symptoms (e.g., of genetic diseases in the organism) and traits.

In genetics, all of the characteristics of the chromosomes of a cell.

Appearance of the chromosomal makeup of a cell, including the number, arrangement, size, and structure of the chromosomes as determined by a photomicrograph taken during mitosis.

The chromosome set of an individual or species described in terms of both the number and structure of the chromosomes.

A photomicrograph of the chromosomes of a single cell, taken during metaphase, when each chromosome is still a pair of chromatids. The chromosomes are then arranged in numerical order, in descending order of size.

The attributes of chromosomes, encompassing their count, dimensions, and arrangement, within an individual or a particular species. Additionally, the term “karyotype” is used to describe a visual representation of chromosome pairs systematically organized according to their designated numerical sequence.
