Keratinization

Process by which cells become horny because of the deposit of Keratin in them; it occurs in outer layers of the skin and associated structures (e.g., nails and hair).

Formation of a hard crust on the skin, often with a horny shape.

The process by which cells become horny due to the deposition of ‘keratin within them. It occurs in the epidermis of the skin and associated structures (hair, nails, etc.), where the cells become flattened, lose their nuclei, and are filled with keratin as they approach the surface.

The process of keratin formation, that is, of maturation or hardening of the skin, hair and nails.

Process by which newly formed cells in the hair bulb mature, fill with keratin, move upward, lose their nucleus, and die.

The transformation into keratin or the development of a horny texture.
