Ketoconazole

Broad spectrum antifungal agent used for long periods at high doses, especially in immunosuppressed patients.


A drug which is effective against a wide range of fungal infections such as cryptococcosis and thrush.


An antifungal drug available as a tablet, a shampoo, and a cream. Ketoconazole (Nizoral), taken as a tablet, prevents the growth of fungus or yeast in the body. The cream preparation of ketoconazole is used to treat athlete’s foot, ringworm, “jock itch,” “sun fungus,” and yeast infection of the skin. The shampoo is used to treat dandruff.


An imidazole antifungal drug. Better absorbed than other imidazoles when taken by mouth, it also has an anti-androgen effect which may give rise to gynaecomastia and impotence in men. In view of its potential hepatotoxicity it is not given orally for trivial infections, but reserved instead for systemic fungal infections.


An antifungal medication utilized for addressing fungal infections affecting the gastrointestinal tract, skin, and fingernails, as well as candidiasis (thrush) affecting the mouth or vagina. Additionally, it serves as a shampoo for dandruff treatment. Possible side effects encompass nausea and skin rash.
