Macronutrients

The nutrients required in relatively large amounts in the body: protein, carbohydrate, fat, and water.

Carbohydrates, lipids, and proteins. Their chief function is to provide the body with the energy necessary to carry on all of the activities of life, micronutrients.

A substance which an organism needs in large amounts for normal growth and development, e.g. nitrogen, carbon or potassium.

Major sources of energy and building materials for the organism. Macronutrients include lipids, carbohydrates, proteins, and water.

The term macronutrient has been defined in a variety of ways. Some refer to macronutrients as any nutrient required in large amounts. Others limit the term to nutrients required in large amounts that also provide energy in the diet. These constituents include fats, proteins, carbohydrates, and alcohol. In some cases alcohol is excluded when discussing macronutrients. If the ability to provide energy from the diet is not included as part of the classification, water is also considered a macronutrient and some may include fiber.

General term for any element or compound, notably vitamins or minerals, that is necessary for proper health and functioning of the body, in relatively large amounts (as opposed to micronutrients). Examples include oxygen, carbon, hydrogen, nitrogen, calcium, phosphorus, magnesium, potassium, sulfur, sodium, and chloride.

Any essential nutrient required in large amounts in a balanced diet. There are six categories of macronutrients: carbohydrates, fats, minerals, proteins, vitamins, and water.

The nutrients we consume in large quantities to fulfill our energy requirements.

Essential nutrients, which are required by the body in considerable quantities, are typically measured in grams. These nutrients include carbohydrates, lipids, and proteins.

Macronutrients refer to the vital components of the human diet that the body requires in substantial amounts to carry out its essential functions. The three chief macronutrients that constitute the bulk of the human diet include protein, fat, and carbohydrates.
