Management information system

A network, be it electronic or person to person, within an organization designed to provide managers and other employees with information to enhance the functioning of an organization.

A system (frequently automated or computer based) which produces the necessary information in proper form and at appropriate intervals for the management of a program or other activity. The system should measure program progress toward objectives and report costs and problems needing attention. Special efforts have been made in the Medicaid program to develop information systems for each State program.
