A person in charge of a department in the health service or in charge of a group of hospitals.
Any individual who is responsible for directing the activities of an organization or one of its components. In the hospital field, however, the title of “manager” is rarely given to high ranking persons, particularly in the professions; the chief executive officer (CEO) and the chief of nursing are not called “managers.” The title is more likely to be used in such areas of the hospital as housekeeping, maintenance, and the like.
