An antihistamine; an antiemetic. Meclizine hydrochloride (Antivert, Bonine) is used to treat vomiting associated with motion sickness and vertigo. It is thought to work by affecting the central nervous system by decreasing stimulation to the body’s balance centers in the middle ear, thereby managing motion sickness and controlling vomiting. Meclizine hydrochloride is available by prescription and over-the- counter.
