Medical assistant

Someone who performs routine administrative and clinical tasks to help in the offices and clinics of doctors and other medical practitioners.


An allied health professional for whom the American Medical Association’s Committee on Allied Health Education and Accreditation (CAHEA) has accredited education programs.


An individual who assists a qualified physician in an office or other clinical setting, performing administrative tasks (such as those of secretary, receptionist, or bookkeeper) and technical duties (vital signs, height, weight, laboratory tests) as delegated and in accordance with state laws governing medical practice.
