Meige syndrome or blepharospasm-oromandibular dystonia is a syndrome that is characterized by dyskinesia or the impairment of voluntary movement of muscles of the eye-lids and lower jaw. Movement is impaired such that there may be fragmentary or incomplete movements as well as uncontrolled or involuntary movements. With Meige syndrome, the muscles of the face and eyelids are most likely to be affected; in some individuals, muscles of the tongue and throat may be affected as well. There is some evidence to suggest that Meige syndrome is associated with dysfunction of the basal ganglia. Other evidence suggests involvement of the lymphatic system.
A dystonic movement disorder that can involve dry eyes and excessive eye blinking, with involuntary movements of the jaw muscles, neck, lips, and tongue.
A uncommon ailment where an ovarian tumor is paired with ascites (fluid build-up in the abdomen) and pleural effusion (fluid surrounding one lung). Typically, the fluid recedes once the tumor is excised.
