Menthol

A strongly scented compound, produced from peppermint oil, used in cough medicines and in the treatment of neuralgia.


An alcohol obtained from oil of peppermint or other mint oils. Menthol may be prepared synthetically. It occurs in crystalline form. When applied to the skin in a 0.25% to 2% solution, it is an antipruritic.


An alcohol derived from mint oils, menthol is a component found in numerous over-the-counter inhalation products designed to alleviate nasal congestion.
