Milium

A white pinheadsized tumour on the face in adults.


A retention cyst in infants.


A cyst on the skin.


A white nodule in the skin, particularly on the face. Up to 4 mm in diameter, milia are round masses of ‘keratin occurring just beneath the outer layer (epidermis) of the skin.


A pinhead white cyst of the skin of the face which can be removed on the point of a sterile needle.


White pinhead-size, keratin filled cyst. Treatment consists of the use of mechanical keratolytics (pumice stone, soap), salicylic acid and sulfur ointment, or incision and expression of contents. In the newborn, milia occur on the face and, less frequently, on the trunk, and usually disappear without treatment within several weeks.


A small, pearly, non-inflammatory bump typically found on the face. These milia can become quite firm and persist for many years.
