Any of several hormones secreted by the adrenal cortex, the most important of which is aldosterone, which functions to maintain normal blood volume and salt and fluid balance in the body.

A corticosteroid hormone secreted by the adrenal cortex (the outer layer of the adrenal glands). Mineralocorti coids regulate the balance of water and electrolytes in the body, particularly sodium (salt) and potassium. They also have a role in normalizing blood pressure.
