Minor

Not very serious or life-threatening.

Less important or serious than others of the same type.

A person under the legally defined age of adulthood (majority) and therefore normally required to be in the custody of parent, foster parent, guardian, or other legally responsible supervision; in legal terms, a child or infant unable to act as an adult in many respects, as in signing a contract. The age defining a minor varies by state, but in the federal 1974 Child Abuse Prevention and Treatment Act, “child” is specified as someone under 18. In some states, a handicapped adult may be legally classed as a minor. Minors who have been freed from parental control and care, as by marriage or military service, are called emancipated minors. The term minor refers to legal ability to act as an adult; by contrast a juvenile is someone who is not yet old enough to be treated as an adult under criminal law.

A person not of legal age and thus requiring consent for medical, surgical, or dental care. The legal age in the U.S. varies from state to state.
