Minor surgery

Surgery in which the operative procedure is not hazardous: e.g., repair of lacerations, treatment of fractures, and biopsies.

Surgery which can be undertaken even when there are no hospital facilities.

Any surgical procedure that does not require general anesthesia or respiratory assistance.

A simple operation not involving a major body cavity or structure and usually causing little disruption of the patient’s physiological status. As with all surgery, there is some risk of injury or death.

Minor procedures that can be done under local anesthesia without posing a threat to life. These include stitching wounds, making small incisions and removing surface structures, applying bandages, and fitting splints or plaster casts.
