Any of several skin diseases typified by the development of soft rounded tumors. Commonly, the term is used for molluscum contagiosum, a virus disease that produces small rounded pearl-like swellings with craters containing broken down matter. The condition is chronic and treatment is by removal with a curette, electrocautery, or by instilling carbolic acid (phenol) locally.
