Mongolian spot

A large area of skin colored pale blue, found in some relatively dark-skinned infants, generally on the buttocks or lower spine; a benign kind of skin disorder that usually disappears or becomes less obvious as the child grows older. Parents must be sure that others do not mistake the area for a large bruise and a sign of possible child abuse.

Benign dark spot on the lower back and buttocks of some newborns, usually disappearing during early childhood.

One of the blue or mulberry-colored spots usually located in the sacral region. It may be present at birth in Asian, American Indian, black, and Southern European infants, and usually disappears during childhood.
