Myopathy

A disease of a muscle, especially one in which the muscle wastes away.

Any disease of the muscles not caused by nerve dysfunction; symptoms depend on the specific disease but generally include muscle weakness and wasting.

Any primary disease or disorder of the muscle tissue, including fibromyalgia, muscular dystrophy, and myositis.

Any disease of the muscles. The myopathies are usually subdivided into those that are inherited and those that are acquired. The acquired myopathies include polymyositis and muscular diseases complicating endocrine disorders or carcinoma. All are typified by weakness and wasting of the muscles in the upper parts of the arms and legs.

Any congenital or acquired muscle disease, marked clinically by focal or diffuse muscular weakness.

A muscular condition unrelated to nervous system issues constitutes a myopathy. This myopathy can be inherited, like in the case of muscular dystrophy, or it might stem from factors such as chemical toxicity, a prolonged immune system disorder, or a metabolic anomaly.

The muscular dystrophies refer to a collection of muscle disorders, commonly inherited, marked by gradually increasing muscle weakness and either muscle atrophy or a deceptive semblance of muscle enlargement.
