Myringoplasty

The surgical repair of a perforated eardrum.


A technique by which surgeons are able to repair a hole in an eardrum, using a tissue graft from else-where in the body; this technique, which uses microsurgery, helps relieve a significant ear and hearing problem.

A surgical procedure to reconstruct a perforation in the eardrum’s membrane when there is no middle ear infection or disease of the ear bones. The procedure seals the middle ear and usually improves hearing. The surgery is performed under local anesthesia through the ear canal.


The sealing by a surgical tissue-graft of a hole or perforation in the drum (tympanum) which separates the middle and outer sections of the ear. It is aimed at improving the subject’s hearing; sometimes the operation is done to stop persistent discharge.
