Nasal discharge

The release of fluid from the nose, known as nasal discharge, frequently results from inflammation of the mucous membrane that lines the nasal passages. This discharge is frequently accompanied by nasal congestion.

Mucus discharge can be indicative of conditions like hay fever, a cold, or an infection that has extended from the adjacent sinuses. A continual and persistent runny discharge could potentially serve as an early sign of a tumor.

Nosebleeds typically stem from injuries or the presence of a foreign object within the nasal passage. On rare occasions, nosebleeds might serve as an indication of an underlying bleeding disorder or a tumor. Discharge of cerebrospinal fluid from the nose can follow a fracture at the base of the skull.
