A Washington DC-based organization promoting “resource mothers,” the U.S. name for the individuals who, in the United Kingdom, are called “health visitors.” These persons guide mothers through child care and also through the health care system. An effort of NCPIM is the Resource Mothers Development Project (RMDP), which seeks to introduce resource mothers into every community to help needy pregnant women and their children. The duties of resource mothers would appear to be identical to those of public health nurses. NCPIM is sponsored by Nestle.
