National health insurance

A proposed federally controlled health insurance that would be available to all U.S. citizens.

A term not yet defined in the United States.

A federally established and operated system of health care financing encompassing all (or nearly all) citizens. Such a system, not in effect in the U.S., would provide uniform benefits to all and be paid for via taxes. Distinguish this from national health service, in which the government is not only the payer, as here, but also the provider. This term encompasses “socialized medicine”.
