Removal of fluid from a tumor or cyst by a fine needle.
Insertion of a hollow needle attached to a syringe into a cyst or lump in order to remove a sample of fluid for microscopic evaluation. In an aspiration biopsy, cells or tissue are suctioned into the syringe and examined for signs of malignancy (cancer).
