Nephropathy serves as a general descriptor for any ailment or harm affecting the kidneys. Typically, it is paired with a word indicating the origin of the damage, such as diabetic nephropathy, obstructive nephropathy, hypertensive nephropathy, and toxic nephropathy. The treatment and prognosis hinge on the underlying cause.
