Nerve lateralization

Surgical procedure that repositions the inferior alveolar nerve for the purpose of implant placement without bone augmentation. The buccal cortex surrounding the mandibular canal is removed to allow the repositioning of the nerve. This procedure raises the risk of neuropathies, such as para‐, dys‐, and/or anesthesia of the inferior alveolar nerve. Because of the high risk of complications, widespread use has not been achieved.
