The ridge of cells in an embryo which forms nerve cells of the sensory and autonomic ganglia.
The two bands of ectodermal tissue that flank the neural plate of the early embryo. Cells of the neural crest migrate throughout the embryo and develop into sensory nerve cells and peripheral nerve cells of the autonomic nervous system.
A band of cells extending longitudinally along the neural tube of an embryo from which cells forming cranial, spinal, and autonomic ganglia arise as well as the cells (ectomesenchyme) that migrate into the forming facial region and become odontoblasts, which form the dentin of the teeth.
