Neuritis

An inflammation of the nerve characterized by pain, sensory disturbances and impairment of reflexes neuritic.

Inflammation of the peripheral nerves that link the brain and the spinal cord with muscles, skin, organs, and other parts of the body.

Inflammation of a nerve, giving a constant pain.

Inflammation of a nerve, producing pain, loss of sensation, defective reflexes, and muscular atrophy. It can result from many causes.

A condition characterized by inflammation of a nerve. Nerve inflammation may be caused by an infection, such as the herpes zoster virus associated with shingles. However, today the term “neuritis” typically refers to more general nerve damage and is used synonymously with neuropathy (disease, inflammation, or damage to any of the peripheral nerves that carry messages between the brain and spinal cord and the rest of the body).

A disease of the peripheral nerves showing the pathological changes of inflammation. The term is also used in a less precise sense as an alternative to neuropathy.

Inflammation affecting a nerve or nerves which may be localized to one part of the body as, for instance, in sciatica or which may affect many nerves, being then known as polyneuritis. Owing to the fact that the most peripheral parts of the nerves are usually affected in the latter condition (i.e. the fine subdivisions in the substance of the muscles), it is also known as peripheral neuritis.

Inflammation of a nerve, usually associated with a degenerative process.

A term that directly signifies inflammation of a nerve. Genuine nerve inflammation can result from infection (such as a virus in herpes zoster or a bacterium in Hansen’s disease). The term neuritis is also commonly used to refer to nerve impairment or disorder due to reasons beyond inflammation. It has largely become synonymous with neuropathy.

The degeneration or inflammation of one or more nerves, accompanied by symptoms such as pain, heightened sensitivity, diminished skin sensation, muscle weakness, muscle atrophy, and the absence of nerve reflexes in the affected area. This condition is often mistaken for neuralgia.
