Nitrogen narcosis

A drugged condition that can be created in a person when the nitrogen in the body is exposed to great pressure as in a deep dive.

Loss of consciousness due to the formation of nitrogen in the tissues, caused by pressure change.

A condition of euphoria, impaired judgment, and decreased coordination and motor ability seen in people exposed to high atmosphere pressure (e.g., divers and submariners). The effects, caused by the increased concentration of nitrogen gas in body tissues (including the brain), are similar to those produced by alcohol intoxication.

Commonly known as “rapture of the deep,” this condition occurs due to elevated nitrogen pressure at significant depths and manifests with symptoms resembling alcohol intoxication.
